HIP JOINT AND/OR GREATER TROCHANTER BURSA INJECTION: The injection of the hip joint under ultrasound guidance is used to treat pain most commonly related to arthritis of the joint. Injection of the greater trochanter bursa is used to reduce pain and inflammation related to the bursa overlying the outer hip. A bursa is a thin sack containing lubricating fluid that allows smooth movement of other structures over the bone. Ultrasound is a safe convenient way to visualize the joint or bursa and ensure accuracy with the injection. The skin will be cleansed with antimicrobial solution and a needle will be inserted into the joint or bursa under live visualization. Injection of solution containing corticosteroid and anesthetic will then be performed.
